Since 1986, the Foundation has allocated $170 million in grants for breast cancer research, health promotion and awareness programs. We will continue to increase these numbers and thank you for your support.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation puts donor dollars to work in support of its mission by awarding grants for research and community health projects across the full spectrum of breast health, including prevention and education, screening, diagnosis, treatment and care.

The Foundation’s five Regions fund research initiatives across the country through grant allocation as well as funding community education and awareness programs. The Foundation also contributes to national research through the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA). The Foundation has partnered with the CBCRA to ensure that funds are not going to repetitious research in Canada. The CBCRA plays a national leadership role in setting priorities and directions for breast cancer research allowing for the collaboration of breast cancer supporters, which creates a stronger body working towards a future without breast cancer.

Money raised in each region from local fundraising stays in that region to fund research and programs specific to the area. Ninety-five per cent of the net money from the Run stays within the region in which it was raised.

The Foundation makes research grant decisions based upon a review from a panel of scientific experts who make recommendations on how the money raised can best be spent to help individuals affected by breast cancer. These experts recommend the research projects that will make the most profound impact. The CBCRA has their own panel of experts who review grants they support. The Foundation’s panel of experts rotate depending on the grant and region. It is because of this due diligence and approach that the Foundation has an excellent reputation in scientific and cancer research communities.

In addition, the Foundation has a partnership with the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, which directs funds raised through the Canadian Breast Cancer CIBC Run for the Cure to cause related initiatives in Quebec.
